Course Objective

Introduce the key concepts of linguistics to students; to teach the basic aspects of phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To comprehend the key concepts of linguistics and universal properties of language.
2   To know the basic aspects of phonology and phonetics.
3   To classify the sounds of English.
4   To know the basic aspects of morphology.
5   To analyze English words in terms of morphology.
6   To analyze English sentences in terms of syntax.
7   To explain the main concepts of semantics.
8   To explain the main concepts of pragmatics.
