Course Objective

This course is designed to focus on analysing the structure and the communicative features of English language in comparison with those of Turkish language; defining and practicing the basic concepts and techniques of translation and practise them through various sample texts. The course also aims at enabling the students to transfer the skills they master during the course to the future ELT environment. This course further aims at providing the students with a general concept and nature of language(s), with the ability to solve problems they may encounter in their future careers and to create and freely express their own opinions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will be able to analyse an English sentence in terms of its structural/communicative/contextual features, and translate it in Turkish
2   Students will be able to recognise the differances in usage of English in different contexts and transfer such nuances into Turkish
3   Students will be able to analyse the texts written in English in their contextual features and translate them into Turkish preserving the corresponding features
4   Students will be able to transfer the knowledge and skills they acquire through translation activities into their learning/teaching process
5   Students will be able to build peer-/self-evaluation skills and a general awareness of language(s), and transfer such skills into their future careers effectively.
