Course Objective

This course is designed to focus on analysing and comparing the structures and the communicative features of Turkish and English languages, defining and practicing the intermediate and advanced concepts and techniques of translation and practise them through various sample texts. The course ultimately aims at enabling the students to transfer the skills they master during the course to the future ELT environment. This course further aims at providing the students with a general concept and nature of language(s), with the ability to solve problems they may encounter in their future careers and to create and freely express their own opinions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will be able to analyse sentences / texts in Turkish in terms of their structural/communicative/contextual features, and translate them into English
2   Students will be able to analyse the texts written in Turkish in their contextual features and translate them into English preserving the corresponding features and nuances
3   Students will be able to transfer the knowledge and skills they acquire through translation activities into their learning/teaching process, and
4   Students will be able to build peer-/self-evaluation skills and a general awareness of language(s), and transfer such skills into their future careers effectively.
5   To help the students to connect between language and culture.
