Course Objective

The aim of this course is to instruct students in concepts, theories, types and features of myth and mythology and to acquaint them with the outlines of Greek and Turkish mythologies. Students will learn names and peculiarities of essential characters and figures of Greek and Turkish mythologies together with the nature and social functions of myths. At the same time they will analyze how mythology is reflected on the works of art produced in our times.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe concepts, features and types of myths
2   Summarize the relationships between myths and other literary genres
3   Identify essential Gods, Goddesses and important heroes of Greek mythology
4   Explain outlines of Turkish mythology
5   Distinguish the mythological elements used in Turkish literature
