Course Objective

It is aimed to make students understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance and communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
It is aimed to enhance the students speaking skills and most importantly is to improve their critical thinking skills and give the students the confidence to tackle any situation.
It is aimed to improve student s German skills using reading and fluency activities. The overall objective is for students to learn to become lifelong readers of German for pleasure and information.
It is aimed to provide students with focus on particular aspects of paragraph writing, such as topics, style, and development, writing support to help them find, orginize, and Express their ideas and language support to help them with vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.

4   Be able to understand the texts written in German.
5   Be able to use and understand the real world expressions in German.

Course Contents

1 to express the abilities and the intentions, to report the past events
2 modal verbs, sentence construction , (the past tense ) Perfekt with `haben and `sein
3 to express requests, to understand the short and easy texts in the past, to talk about the learning targets and the learning habits
4 to learn the jobs and occupation, to give instructions and advice, to talk about the permissions, prohibition and the rules
5 to say the body parts and to describe a person
6 word formation/building, (the past tense) Präteritum with `haben and `sein , imperative
7 to write a letter, to arrange/make an appointment
8 Conversations for staying at a Hotel (some typical dialogues between a hotel receptionist and a guest)
9 Mid-term Exam
10 Asking for and giving directions, to learn the vehicles, to express the requests and demands
11 prepositions of place , prepositions of time, present subjunctive II( polite form), verbs with different prefixes
12 to write messages, to understand the information texts, to understand the announcements
13 to learn the clothes, to talk about the clothes and to express likes/ dislikes, to learn the day and dates
14 Final Exam

Assessment Criteria

1. The student will write simple isolated phrases and sentences. Longer texts contain expressions and show coherence problems which make the text very hard or impossible to understand.
2. The student will understand very short, simple texts a single phrase at a time, picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases and rereading as required.
3. The student will produce simple mainly isolated phrases about people and places.
