General Description

History

Department of Biomechanics was established at 2003 as a multidisciplinary department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Our academic personel are from engineering (mechanical, elektrics and electronics, mechatronics,material and metalurgical,chemistry engineering) and clinical (orthopadics) departments. Biomechanics Msc program has been started education at 2003. Program duration is 2,5 years (half year scientific preparatory, 1 year is course, 1 year is thesis study.). The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma. Minimum score of 55 from the National Central Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields or 50 in graduate medical residency examination (TUS) , acceptable minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (UDS/KPDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained from TOEFL/IELTS/etc. or being successful at the foreign language examination of the Institute (minimum score of 70) and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 65).

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Biomechanics Msc programme started education at 2005.The objectives of this programme are obtaining knowledge about biomechanics terminology and basic theories, improving presentation skills, developing ability to follow, interpret and present domain-specific scientific research, acquiring knowledge and skills on basic research methods in neuroscience. Program contains Compulsory Courses each semester and elective courses in different biomechanics fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Have knowledge to apply, consideration and searching about the current literature and access to scientific knowledge
2   To get skills for using both orthopaedic and biomechanical knowledge
3   To develop scientific knowledge with benefit from areas of biomechanics that interdisciplinary branch of science with the other disciplines and to get creative skills
4   To understand the importance of team work in addition with individual success and have a collective study skills with academic visits
5   To get advanced knowledge in the field of biomechanics about elective courses and adoption of innovations in these areas
6   To have skills about using computer to get the necessary data for research and adoption of innovations in these areas
7   To have skills about using necessary devices and equipment (CNC-Turning, CNC-milling machine, Universal Turning and Milling, Shimadzu autograph, the prototype device, Laser Scanner) to solve and develop new solutions in the biomechanics field
8   Having sufficient technical english to understand the article and the book in the field of biomechanics
9   To get verbal and written communication skills
10   Having universal and scientific ethical values
11   Having adequate knowledge about occupational health and safety
12   To get knowledge about basic and clinical medicine science

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of students was done with 2 midterm examination, 1 final examination, homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
