General Description

History

Department of Internal Medicine Nursing was established at September 26, 1994 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of the Senate. Our academic staff are consist ed of members of Department of Internal Medicine Nursing of the Nursing Faculty and members of the Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurology and Department of Geriatrics. Internal Medicine Nursing PhD program has been started education at 2008 by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Program duration is 4 years (2 year is course, 2 year is thesis study. The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma. Minimum GPA 80/100 or 3/4, minimum score of 60 from the National Central Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields, or 50 in graduate medical residency examination (TUS) minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (YDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained fromTOEFLetc, and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 75).Transcript.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme.

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Internal Medicine Nursing PhD program has been started education at 2005. The oblectives of this programme are contribute of improving to Internal Medicine Nursing by doing original researches for developing new idea, methods and practices; to follow and use evidence based practices; and to decide according to take into consideration of patients preferences. Program contains Compulsory Course of Institute (4 national credits), compulsory course of Internal Medicine Nursing department and and elective courses in different Internal Medicine Nursing fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university

Key Learning Outcomes

1   1. Develop and deepen the up-to-date and advanced knowledge in her/his field at an advance level with the help of original thinking and/or research and compose original definitions that would bring innovations to her/his field, based on post graduate competences of internal medicine nursing.
2   2. Recognize the interdisciplinary interaction with which the field of ınternal medicine nursing is related; compose original results by using knowledge that require specialty in analysing, synthesising and assessing the new and complicated thoughts.
3   3. Assess and use the new knowledge in the field of ınternal medicine nursing with a systematic approach.
4   4. Compose a new thought, method, design and/or application that brings innovation to the field of internal medicine nursing, or apply a known thought, method, design and/or application to a different field; study, comprehendy, designy, adapt and apply an original subject
5   5. Criticize, synthesis and assess the new and complicated thoughts about the field of internal medicine nursing.
6   6. Use the research methods highly skillful at in studies related with the field of internal medicine nursing
7   7. Contribute to a progress in the field that would develop a new thought, method, design and/or application which bring innovation to the field of internal medicine nursing, or apply a known thought, method, design and/or application to a different field and would implement an original study independently.
8   8. Expand the knowledge in the field by publishing at least one scientific journal related with the field of internal medicine nursing in national and/or international refereed journals
9   9. Manage in environments that require the solution of original and interdisciplinary problems in the field of internal medicine nursing.
10   10. Create new ideas and methods related with her/his field by using top level intellectual processes, such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
11   11. Examine and develop the social relations and the norms that direct these relations with a critical viewpoint, and also manages the actions for change, when necessary
12   12. Discuss her/his original views during the discussion of the subjects in the field of internal medicine nursing with specialists and use an effective contact that shows her/his competence in the field
13   13. Collaborate and discuss with colleagues in national and international fields with the help of the competence of language and technology usage.
14   14. Contribute to her/his society to be an information society by introducing the scientific, technologic, social or cultural developments in the field of internal medicine nursing.
15   15. Set up a functional interaction by using strategical decision-making processes for the solution of problems that are encountered in the field of internal medicine nursing.
16   16. Contribute to the social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems that are encountered in the field of internal medicine nursing and supports the development of these values.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Every student must register to total of 30 ECTS. 150 out of 240 ECTS must be thesis studies. Throughout PhD study, each student must collect 90 ECTS (including 12 ECTS of Specialty Area course) in 3 semesters. During course period of PhD study, every student should enroll to at least 20 ECTS of common elective courses (such as, Research culture, research methods and transferrable skills) and at least 20 ECTS more from discipline based and laboratory skill courses. Also, student may enroll to a common elective, discipline based and laboratory skill courses in a different institute or university to complete 20 ECTS. Every student must register to Thesis related reseach topic I in first semester and Thesis related reseach topic II in second semester. Furthermore, during course period , each student should attend to a Ethics course or training.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment criteria for each course are defined in the Course Description Form included in the information pack prepared by the faculty member/members. The relevant items of the DEU Undergraduate, Graduate Education-Training and Exam Regulations and Instutie Examination Regulations apply in relation to exams and course grades. To be successful in this course must be received at least 75.
