General Description

History

Department of Film Design Doctorate Degree established within the body of DEU Institute of Social Sciences in early 1980s. Then it incorporated to the Institute of Fine Arts in 2002. With the change of the programme title in 2009, it has been changed from Department of Cinema- TV Doctorate Degree to Department of Film Design Doctorate Degree. Both Cinema TV and Film Design Doctorate Degree graduates are over a total 80.

Transfer Students
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management
The Graduate Transfers
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legşilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

All the courses given in Department of Film Design Doctorate Degree are selective and theoretical. The courses follow a cirriculum aiming at improving academical abilities of students. The most distinguishing aspects of the programme are the courses mainly on film sociology and aesthetics along with the courses on simulation theory.
The academic staff of the programme consists of two professors and seven assistant professors. Among the physical conditions that the programme offers, a graduate classroom, and the film and art books collection of Prof. Dr. Jur. Alim Şerif Onaran which is open for the use of graduate students.
Student Exchange is enabled within the scope of LLP/ Erasmus aggreements made by the faculty, insitute and our department.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Conduct independent researches on visual and written materials on a professional level.
2   Decide what kind of knowledge is required on a research problem, question or subject on a professional level.
3   Interpret the data at hand in order to produce deep knowledge and evaluate them on a professional level and use them effectively.
4   Present his/her studies as a comprehensive research essay in an appropriate written format.
5   Be competent on the aesthetics and history of film art, particularly within the scope of art, philosophy and history on a further level.
6   Obtain knowledge on world and Turkish cinema on a professional level which is compatible with national/international information, ability and perfection standarts.
7   Analyse a film or media production with its creative process as part of its aesthetical, historical and cultural context and produce knowledge on a professional level.
8   Possess the deep knowledge on evaluating the technical codes of other fields of art (theatre, music, painting, etc.) and ability of communication and interaction between these art forms.
9   Possess a researching order and discipline, be determined and responsible and be notable via his/her difference in the competition conditions on a professional level.
10   Possess proficient knowledge on production-distribution chain in film and television industries.
11   Review films considering different races, religions, genders, politics and social/ class divisions on a professional level.
12   Obtain a further general cultural formation on his/her area of expertise and be compatible with his/her social conditions and education level.
13   Have a good mastery of a foreign language.
14   Possess a frame of mind that can question everything and don t submit any kind of dogma.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) program is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, pasing a gualifiying examination, preparing and defending a doctoral dissertation, in total 240 ECTS credits.
