General Description

History

Ceramics and Glass Departmant Graduate programme has started to the education and teaching at 1989-1990 teaching term. Ceramics and Glass Departmant Graduate programme
has been prepared by taking into account the universities graduate program in ceramics and the education conditions in our country.In the first year of two year program,there are lessons that require advanced level of knowledge and skills in Ceramics and Glass design.And thesis project that states the student s province takes part in the second year.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The purpose of Ceramics Departmant Graduate Study Program is to grove up individuals that are equipped with advanced knowledge and skills, know the methods of getting the information, are in the conscious of research and development, follow the improvements about science and technology in their fields, can adapt the knowledge and abilities obtained to the social life, are open to the communication and efficient at the principle of learning lifelong, realize and improve the environment lived in. This programme provides students developing skills and expressing the feelings that want to specialize in industrial or artistic ceramics. And it leads to comparative art perception at the same time.
The departmant is equipped with 3 professors and 2 assistant professors. 8 ateliers that consist of shaping ceramics, plaster forms, decor, glass, restoration and computer and a labratory as well, in addition there are classrooms and ateliers used collectively with other departmants.In the building there is a central library and wireless internet is also available. These are open to student s use.
The departmant enables student and instructer exchange in the scope of LLP Erasmus.The department has a billateral aggrement with Academy of Fine Arts and Design Bratislava/Slovakia, FH Koblenz University of Applied Sciences/Germany besides 7 institutes. 2 or 3 students who succeded in exams can benefit from the student exchange programme.

8   To be able to transform the advanced knowledge into designs in accordance with concepts and thoughts that are acquired.
9   To be able to associate the information, methods and techniques about his / her own field with other disciplines.
10   To be able to create an art work that exhibits creativity and high level skills, without any assistance.
11   To be able to keep up with all the latest developments in his / her field and adapt himself/herself to them.
12   To be able to describe goals in art and culture environment, to create a personal art and design process and methodology in line with mentioned goals, and share the end result with society
13   To be innovative and creative and also be able to participate in discussions about art and design effectively to express his / her opinion.
14   To be able to express himself/herself as an artist and also to have strong social relations.

This graduate degree is enough for student to make his profession and specialize in his province. The graduate of Ceramics and Glass Design has been employed in the large companies in ceramics and glass sector.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, a seminar and specialization courses and thesis studies, in total 120 ECTS credits.
