General Description

History

Higher Economy and Trade School, on which contemporary Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences was founded upon, was established on September 9th, 1944. It was renamed as Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy on June 8th, 1959 by the by the Law No. 7334. It was included in Ege University as a faculty in 1968. With the establishment of Dokuz Eylül University by Decree Law No. 41 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions, it was joined the establishment as Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Contemporarily, the Faculty consists of seven departments which are Business Administration, Economics, Public Finance, Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Econometrics and Management Information Systems. All departments have both day and evening formal education programmes.
Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Business Administration undergraduate program aims to raise management candidates that are equipped with contemporary business management approach, entrepreneurial, innovative, competitive, who think analytically, take decisions rapidly, who are qualified and skilled. On this basis, our department carries out an undergraduate program at international level.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates, who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum of Business Administration Programme, are awarded with the Bachelors Degree in Public Administration.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of prior learning for Business Administration Programme are in conformance with general requirements of Dokuz Eylül University. These rules and regulations can be accessed through web page http://www.deu.edu.tr/ders-katalog/eng/eng-b7.html.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to successfully complete all courses of the programme (equivalent to 240 ECTS total) and obtain a minimum average grade point of 2.00 out of 4.00. In addition, conditions in the relevant articles of the second and fourth parts of the Associate and Bachelors Degree Education and Examination Regulations (http://www.deu.edu.tr/DEUWeb/Icerik/Icerik.php KOD=5683) should be met.

Profile of the Programme

Undergraduate program of business administration has a contemporary content related with business administration science. It covers business administration science under the light of subfunctions like management-organization, marketing, accounting, finance, production, quantitative methods and commercial law and renders education and instruction in this context. In first two years mostly generic and common courses are taught offered by various departments in Economics and Administrative Sciences Faculty. In third and fourth years there are specific courses to related departments. Undergraduate students may select elective courses from a wide elective spectrum. Also there are seven Erasmus electives conducted in English and French in the curriculum. In addition, local students can benefit both from Farabi Exchange Program through Turkish Universities and Erasmus exchange Program through European universities for one or two semesters.
Department of Business Administration continues its education and instruction activities with 16 professors, 15 associate professors, 15 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 18 research assistants.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Have basic theoretical information pertaining to economics and administrative sciences.
2   Are able to understand and implement contemporary advancements about basics of business, business establishment and development in the light of fundamental knowledge related with management functions.
3   Can understand and interpret concepts associated with human behavior in organizational environment. Can analyze, resolve behavioral and administrative problems, and propose suggestions about them. Can rationally organize processes for efficient utilization of human capital by developing internal and external image of businesses.
4   Analyze changes in environmental conditions in order to gain competitive advantage and an average revenue for sustaining business in long term; develop, apply and control adaptive institutional, business and functional strategies.
5   Have information on basics of law, issues of law of obligations, commercial law and business law; propose solutions to legal problems of businesses.
6   Recognize businesses holistically with the notion of systems approach, have knowledge on defining business problems, design and modelling, using modern technologies, and interpreting the results obtained.
7   Know international quality management systems, grasp abilities to participate in teams and processes for system development.
8   Have cognitive and analytical thinking abilities, approach business troubles interdisciplinary, can incorporate quantitative and qualitative data with mathematical and statistical models.
9   Have capabilities to prepare, analyze and audit financial statements-reports and use them in business solutions.
10   Recognize and solve accounting-finance problems besides taking sound and appropriate decisions.
11   Know basic information pertains to finance theory, domestic and international financial markets and investment decisions develop alternate solution suggestions on the light of those.
12   Predominant on conceptual information for implementing marketing strategy required by global competition environment, marketing research, carrying out marketing information system, understanding consumer behavior, determining and applying proper strategy related with marketing mix.
13   Have information and equipment to be utilized for maximum efficient use of production/operations and marketing functions taking into account of competitors. Can use contemporary production and marketing knowledge for problem solving.
14   Understand the effects of the Production/Operations management that increases the productivity of the production on the quality of social life and the relationship with other functions.
15   Have the skills of information lettered, entrepreneurship, communication and team work as a business administrator, take the responsibility, follow up the recent developments, and produce creative, innovative and competitive solutions to the problems within the framework of ethics principles by thinking analytically.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Business administration graduates are able to be employed in both public and private sectors. Our graduates might have the inspector, auditor and assistant supervisor examinations prepared by various institutions and they might be financial consultants. Our graduates are employed in fields of human resources, marketing, finance and production in banks, research institutions, national and international companies. Furthermore, business administration graduates are able to sustain an academical career by carrying on graduate programmes.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates who completed undergraduate programmes requirements successfully can register to second and third cycle pogrammes (masters and doctorate) of national and international higher education institutions if they can meet the related requirements.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are a total of 105 courses under Business Administration undergraduate programme. Of those courses, 48 are compulsory and 57 are elective. 6 of elective courses are Erasmus courses. Students select 10 of these elective courses over eight semesters of education. Elective/compulsory courses ratio is 17,2 %. Considering ECTS credits, this ratio is 15,8 %. 16 of the compulsory courses and 7 of the elective courses are offered by other departments of the faculty.
