General Description

History

Higher Economy and Trade School, which is called Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences in todays, was established on September 9, 1944. Then it was named Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy by the Law No. 7334 adopted on June 8, 1959. ıt was joined to Ege University as a four- year faculty in 1968. On July 20, 1982 it was joined to Dokuz Eylül University under the name of Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences by Decree Law No. 41 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions. Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Dokuz Eylül University has distinguished position among the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Turkey with deep rooted history and academic staff.
In the 2012-2013 Academic Year, Department of Public administration is continuing its education and training activities with 3 professors, 1 associate professor and 10 assistant professors. Academic staff carries out researches and studies on subjects affecting to Public Administration and subjects related with public administration of these disciplinarians. In Public Administration, there is only master programme with thesis. Apart from that, there are 4 sub-departments named Political Science, Management Sciences, Urbanization and Environment Issues, Juridicial Science.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The master program in Public administration aims to educate students with a theoretical background which also includes knowing the theories about public administration, accessing to information and the ability to interpret information. In that way, it is aimed students to gain theoretical knowledge in the fields of political science, urban and environmental problems, administrative sciences and law. Also it is aimed to associate theoretical knowledge with the practices by using the different methods such as paper, project and field research. As of secondary class, it is enabled students to specialize in the fields which they want to specialization by elective courses in their programs.

Key Learning Outcomes

1	Have basic academic knowledge of Public Administration at advanced level.
2	Brings solutions to the basic problems of political science, management, law, urban and environment areas of Public Administration in the light of scientific principles recognized internationally.
3	Contribute by taking part in the scientific research and project teams.
4	Have academic methodology knowledge.
5	Prepare seminar works which are accordance with academic standards and offers in graduate programs
6	Prepare paper and master thesis which are accordance with academic writing provisions following national and international legislation and literature.
7	Evaluate and analyse information related to its field in a multilateral and critical way
8	Make interdisciplinary studies.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The Graduates of Department of Public Administration graduate as having a comprehensive knowledge related with the fields of Political Science, Management Science, Urbanization and Environment and Law. It is aimed students to graduate as having the goods by having not only a theoretical Infrastructure related with public administration but also an ability of accessing and interpreting the information. Because of this, it is aimed to associate theoretical knowledge with practices by using the different methods such as paper, project and field research. Also our students take the courses in the other fields such as Public Finance, Economics, and Business Administration. The graduates do not have specific titles. However, they can work almost every institution when they are successful in the exams which are provided as central or prepared by each institutions one by one. Also they can apply to some occupations such as administrative jurisdiction judges, district governor (prefecture), inspector, expert and assistant expert. Besides, they can be employed in local administration. The graduates, who want to work in private sector, can be employed in banks, research institutes, companies. They can tent to have an academic career in public administration and related disciplines. There are a great number of our students appointed different universities as research assistants.

Students graduated from 4-year education can apply for this programme. Applicant outside the department of Public Administration, Political Science and Public Administration can be accepted to the programme on condition of being involved to scientific preparation. During master, students chose four courses correspond to 30 ECTS including Researches Methods and Techniques in Social Sciences, obligatory course ( KMY 5021), in the first period of course stage. There are 5 courses in the second period. Each student has to take course from all different sub-departments during two periods. (Political Science, Management Sciences, Urbanization and Environment Issues, Juridicial Science)

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 55 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (2 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
