General Description

History

Master of Conflict Resolution commenced its education and training activities in 2010. In this programme, students are provided with knowledge, skills and competencies for conflict resolution on individual, organizational, national and international levels. In this manner, students are rendered an advanced level of education with regard to negotiation and mediation. Moreover, the programme provides an opportunity for students that would like to participate in the academic world. Medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

A constructive solution of conflicts which can be international, national, social, cultural, organizational, between groups and individual ; production, teaching and dissemination of theoretical and practical information regarding the constructive solution of the conflicts without using violence is very significant in todays world.
Thus, the objective of this programme is to educate students to become responsible individuals with advanced oral and written communication skills, capable of remaining neutral and rational under any circumstances while working towards a peaceful resolution of conflicts between individuals on a local, regional, national and international level with the integration of different disiplines such as law, political science, international relations, business, psychology and sociology.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To gain knowledge on the fields of law, political science, international relations, business management, psychology and sociology.
2   To be able to apply conflict resolution techniques and methods.
3   To foresee, prevent, manage, transform and help peacefully resolve political, economic, social, legal and cultural disputes between; individuals, communities, groups, governments on a local, regional, national and international level.
4   To play an active role in conflict resolution and to make conflict resolution mechanisms function effectively in organization.
5   To integrate conflict resolution strategies, skills and principles in various fields.
6   To use a holistic approach to analyze conflict.
7   To use empathy to resolve conflict.
8   To establish an effective oral and written communications link by use of Turkish and other foreign languages (B2) in order to share the knowledge about related areas and to defend opinions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The students who complete this programme successfuly can work at middle and high level management positions in the organizations and institutions both in the private and public sector, where they are able to use their knowledge, skills and competencies.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 56 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS) and field study (2 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
