General Description

History

Master in Music Technology is founded in 2009, as a part of the Department of Music, after the foundation of the bachelor s degree in Music Technology in 2008. The program involves courses in music technology as well as supporting courses in the art and theory of music.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Masters in Music Technology program is primarily intended for students who hold a bachelor s degree in Music Technology and whose aim is to take action and responsibility with academic competence and specialty in the field of Music Technology. The courses in the program are designed specifically to provide the students with a strong foundation in music technology academically and practically. The students are provided with up to date theoretical knowledge with case scenarios and research projects as well as strong views about the practical abilities required for the research. There are 2 academic members in the department. A recording studio and electronics lab is also available for practical purposes.

1   To have a solid knowledge on music technology including the recent improvements in the field.
2   To explain the theoretical and practical differences in a study which is developed with the knowledge and skills gained in bachelors studies and self-creativity.
3   To realize the interdisciplinary interactions of music technology.
4   To create an extensive study which brings a new development, scientific method or technological product/process to science and technology.
5   To detect, design and apply a independent research process and lead it to conclusion.
6   To communicate verbally and in written form with colleagues and other scientific and social communities.
7   To make a critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation of ideas and developments is his/her field of study.
8   To contribute to the field of music technology by publishing his / her academic work in respected academic environments.
9   To share his / her thoughts effectively in discussions with knowledge in scientific knowledge production methods and approaches.
10   To evaluate the improvements in the field of music technology and share the information with scientific objectivity and ethical responsibility.
11   To have a high level of knowledge on the techniques and skills required for reaching new information and do research.
12   To use at least one foreign language to observe international information and communicate verbally and in written form.
13   To share and apply the information obtained in his / her field of study in an interdisciplinary research environment.
14   To contribute to scientific improvement in national and international level while being open to new directions in science, internalizing the life-long learning principles and being aware of the sociological and cultural effects of musicological studies.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, a seminar and specialization courses and thesis studies, in total 120 ECTS credits.
