General Description

History

The utilization of active labour market policies as a solution for unemployment problem which is an important problem of our country and the increase of employment agencies besides the Turkish Labour Institution increase the demand for Employment and Career Counsellor. Accordingly, Job and Occupational Counsellor national occupational standard is prepared by Vocational Qualification Institute. The certificate is being awarded to whom succesfull in examinations. In this field, the specialists will be educated by this Non thesis Masters Degree Programme which will start at 2013-2014 school year.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The objective of the programme is to educate specialists who will able to make research and application as to employment, occupation and career subject, to guide people with their occupational talents and to help them to reach recent work with employability. There are two foreign language lessons in the curriculum. These lessons constitute 9 percent of the program.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Are able to know general information about social sciences.
2   Are able to know the structure and functioning of labour market, expectations of the side of supply and demand, occupations, occupational education, work life and career.
3   Have information as to employment and career institutes and their services and politics.
4   Are specialists at theoretical and practical level about counselling.
5   Apply and improve employment and career plan with using the so-called regulation, psychology, sociology and occupational information.
6   Analyze measurement and evaluation activities for counselees. They do necessary meeting with counselees and the so-called institutes.
7   Analyze recent developments as to labour market and career opportunities, make research, develop plans and suggest for their counselees for protecting their employability.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

People who graduated from Non Thesis Masters Degree Programme in Employment and Career Counselling should be employment in some positions at Private Employment Offices and Turkish Labour Institution as a specialist or manager. They also can be employed at private sector as specialist or counsellor.

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Employment and Career Consultancy non-thesis master programme consists of 14 compulsory, 8 optional courses, 1 graduation project. Students who have successfully completed courses in first three semesters have to perapare and defend a project. One compulsory course is taken from outside of the department. Non-Thesis Master programme students are obliged to submit their term-projets at the end of third semester.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 75 ECTS), Term Project (15 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
