General Description

History

Institute of Social Sciences started its activities in 1982, by aiming the continuous development, the goal of universal level is to provide education and training post-graduate level. Additionally Family Law which has an important place in practice of law is offered as a Masters Degree non-thesis Program by Instition of Social Sciences. Family Law Masters Degree Program has three midterms and at the end of the lectures there is a Project instance as all the other non-thesis Masters Degree Programs.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

This program is intended for lawyers who have internalized the universal principles of law and have competency of legal legislation and the fundamental legal concepts and rules. Through a competency based education process, the national and international developments are analyzed legally and the ability of solving and identifying of legal disputes and conflicts is improved. The ability of legal reasoning is deepened by comparative and critical thinking ability. In addition to these objectives, illuminating the society and individuals about their legal rights. A great majority of lessons which are given in this program are the basic questions of Family Law as Marital Property, General Terms of Marriage, Divorcement and its Legal Consequences, Adoption.

1   Deepening the knowledge of Family Law to the expert-level.
2   Accessing knowledge by scientific research methods.
3   Offering new solutions for the problems of Family Law by means of doctrine, legislation and judicial decisions.
4   Conveying knowledge regarding Family law and his/her original views by using oral and written expressions efficiently.
5   Analyzing the sociological and psychological problems underlying Family Law.
6   Creating new solutions for the conflicts of Family Law compatible with other fields of law.
7   Promoting methods that are compatible with family democracy, individual rights, equality of men and women and the protection of the weak.
8   Implementing the fundamental principles of Family Law into his/her occupation.
9   Offering new proposals for Family Law legislation by having comparative studies.
10   Advancing a strategy, policy and exercising plans about Family Law and evaluating all of these conclusions in a light of quality process.
11   Having a competency of using at least one foreign language with oral/written forms.
12   Having the ability of using information and communication technologies at a required level.

There are three mid-term for lectures in this program. At the end of these students be able to evaluate and construe the basic rules of Family Law. Students be able to choose the lessons, which they want to be lectured. There are 15 compulsory lessons and 2 elective lessons in this program.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 85 ECTS), Term Project (5 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
