General Description

History

Dokuz Eylul University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Classical Archaeology started training in 2000. The language of instruction is Turkish. Thanks to the different fields of specialization courses allow students to develop themselves. The strength of the students research aims to develop expertise in specific subjects.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma; a minimum Cum. GPA of 80/100 or 3/4; a minimum score of 60 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM. Transcript; a minimum score of 75 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Dokuz Eylul University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Classical Archaeology has six faculty members. The program language is Turkish. Support all types of students to work on the project and the thesis is provided.

1   In the first temporal boundaries of the science of archeology and the second plan in the process of forming a continuation of this process in the time-pieces in the Aegean and the Mediterranean basin civilizations, this civilization on the ruins of the material culture of specialization and scientific work to do.

3   The ability to use scientific development, discipline alternatives to each other that there are different ways of thinking, would be able to accept different opinions.
4   Professional and ethical responsibilities in the science of archeology to renew the required knowledge and skills.
5   Benefiting from the perspective of other humanities and social sciences and related fields to comprehend the idea to conduct, to ask the questions necessary to evaluate, to sustain interdisciplinary perspective.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS), a field study (3 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
