General Description

History

Ph.D. programme in Business Administration started its education activities in 2009. The programme provides education for improving the knowledge, skills and proficiency of those students who would like to work as academic personnel in universities or as manager in private and public sectors. Moreover, the programme renders an opportunity to major in entrepreneurship for those individuals who would like to succeed in their own business. Medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma; a minimum CGPA of 80/100 or 3/4; a minimum score of 60 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Efficient and effective management of businesses is extremely important in an ever increasing competition in todays world. In this programme, advanced level knowledge and skills about the business administration are provided to students from various backgrounds. The programme renders opportunities for specializing in one of the business functions such as marketing, management, accounting, finance, production and information systems besides general business administration. Thus, it is expected that those students who finish the program successfully can work as managers in middle and high level positions in institutional firms both in Turkey and also abroad. Moreover, the programme provides an opportunity to major in entrepreneurship for those individuals who would like to establish their own businesses.
The objective of Ph.D. Programme is to educate academicians and researchers who have theoretical knowledge in business administration; have the ability to learn by oneself through following the academic developments; have the ability to contribute to the generation of scientific knowledge by synthesizing the theoretical knowledge with a critical viewpoint and transfer this information; have a scrupulous approach about scientific morals and ethics.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To develop a critical perspective on the basic theories of management science while analyzing the relationships between these theories through their historical backgrounds.
2   To define, analyze, interpret and solve problems related to the specified field by using scientific approaches.
3   To conduct scientific projects and complete a thesis in order to contribute to the field.
4   To publish original work that will contribute to the scientific community while abiding to scientific rules and regulations.
5   To be able to work independently while maintaining a self-governed approach.
6   To perform a principled approach towards scientific morality and business ethics.
7   To establish an effective oral and written communications link by use of Turkish and other foreign languages (C1) in order to share the knowledge about the related area and to defend the opinions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The students who graduate from the programme can work as academicians in universities or work as medium and high level managers in the private and public organizations.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) a field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
