General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Department of Total Quality Management was established in 2000. When the Department of Total Quality Management was established, Total Quality Management Masters Program and Total Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program were opened as programs of interdisciplinary graduate program. In the academic year of 2010-2011 the names of Total Quality Management Masters Program and Total Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program changed to the Quality Management Masters Program and Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program. This program aims to contribute to the training of specialized personnel which can act important role in quality planning, control and improvement activities in manufacturing and service industry sectors. Education language of the program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The aims of this programme are to educate the candidate executives who know the techniques used in improvement activities of the quility systems, are able to take part in groups and have analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. Moreover, it aims to educate experts who adopt philosophy of quality, follow the global trends in quality and have the potential to contribute to these trends. Besides, programme aims to establish the international quaily management systems and to ensure continuity in the systems by making quality as the strategy of the organization.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Being able to interiorize the philosophy of quality and having fundamental knowledge and motivation to continuously improve business processes.
2   Having fundamental knowledge of establishment and operation of the quality cost systems which are important in the measurement of the success of quality management systems and using the results of the data analysis in management decisions.
3   Being able to increase performance of business processes efficiently by using necessary administrative and statistical techniques and problem-solving approaches.
4   Being able to manage team members who take part in the projects related to quality management and quality improvement.
5   Having knowledge of quality, quality management systems and quality/productivity improvement concepts and knowledge of methods which are necessary to implement these concepts.
6   Having knowledge of making quality as a part of corporate strategy and thus making the quality management systems built-in.
7   Having knowledge of using management, engineering and statistical disciplines synchronized and interactive in quality management.
8   Being able to think analytical and be systematic in quality-related events.
9   Being able to inform team members on issues related to quality management.
10   Being able to monitor quality literature and developments in the world and potential of contributing them.
11   Being abe to take responsibility as a team manager or team member by analysing and discussing the strategic planning, performance management, quality management and improvements to support the theoretical knowledge about the quality.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates who completed the Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program can be employed in the quality departments of public or private enterprises and can be executed through the following tasks:
- Work as a management representative or responsible for the quality management system in the establishment and the administration of the quality management systems in industrial organizations.
- Perform internal audits of the quality management system.
- Work in quality control activities.
- Work in the quality planning and improvement activities implemented during the design and development of product and manufacturing process.
- Work efficiently as a team member in the improvement teams and as a manager in the projects which solves quality related problems.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program all courses during first and second semester are compulsory and students who successfully complete elective courses in the three semester, required to execute a project and succeeded in the last semester. There are no prerequisite required for taking the courses. In program courses which is formed of theoretical lectures formed it is important to take advantage of other disciplines which take the basis of Quality Management Program and be able to have advanced knowledge of these disciplines and be able to analyze the concepts and ideas in the field of Quality Management by the scientific methods, interpret and evaluate data, be able to apply the innovations and innovative work principles in the field.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 85 ECTS), Term Project (5 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
