General Description

History

The Department of Economics consists of two programs as Economics and Financial Economics and Banking in the Graduate School of Social Sciences at Dokuz Eylül University. As of 2012-2013 academic years, Department of Economics is continuing its education and training activities with 7 professors, 5 associate professors, 10 assistant professors and 18 research assistants.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

To educate the professionals who think originally and independently, gain the required information and skill to undertake a research, can integrate the knowledge of other disciplines with the studies of his/her own field, can produce solutions for the problems in his/her own field and have ethical values

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To be able to deepen knowledge that gained in the same field or/and different field at the level of expertise by having comprehensive theoretical knowledge in his/her own field.
2   To be able to improve policy reccomendations for the economic problems to increase the well-being of society by using comprehensive theoretical and applied knowledge that gained in his/her own field
3   To be able to work effectively as a team member of a scientific research project
4   To be able to prepare seminar and present it in accordance with the scientific ethics and standards in his/her field.
5   To be able to write theses, reports etc., present and publish them as an article in accordance with the scientific ethics and standards in his/her field
6   To be able to integrate the theoretical knowledge with the application in the field
7   To be able to generate new knowledge by integrating the theoretical knowledge of the expertise level that is gained in the field with information that comes from different disciplines
8   To be able to critically evaluate information related to the field
9   To be able to treat the studies of other disciplines, that are integrated with information in the field.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 55 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
