Course Objective

Teaching Clothing, Clothes, Clothing Art and Stage Costume concepts, examining common factors and differences about the concepts,
Teaching properties and functions of stage costume in performance arts and teaching the place and the importance of clothing symbolism in the performance arts,
Teaching the skills of carrying out practices regarding producing and applying the clothes (clothes, size and scale, clothing items and varieties, clothing parts and drawing them, basic sewing techniques) that affect the Stage Costume Designer and his/her Design

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   As a result of education given with this lesson, student is expected to... Examine the properties of clothing, art of clothing, stage clothing concepts and differences between them
2   Comprehend properties and functions of stage costume in performance arts and teaching the place and the importance of clothing symbolism in the performance arts,
3   Be able to design "stage costume" for performing arts field by observing factors related to clothing symbolism
4   Be able to apply "basic costume production techniques within the frame of dress, body and size concepts" aiming to bring in competence on developing the skill of increasing "applicableness and the level of realization of the design" affecting the costume design and develop special skills in performing arts
5   Learn clothing terminology and be able to use "clothing terminology" used in expression of profession, during the process of application of Stage Costume he/she designed,
6   Possess the cultural knowledge that will form the base of Performing Arts
7   Be able to evaluate the theoretic information in the field of Performing Arts in light of information he/she gained during his/her practice

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

*-Concepts will be conveyed with presentation technique; all concepts will be illustrated and supported by printed visual media and various products of visual arts (film, theater).

*- Drawing applications and basic sewing techniques will be conveyed by being practiced one-to-one; cognitive, affective and psychomotor behaviors will be brought in via technique of experiencing the application, and these will be illustrated by sections from the related artwork on printed media and visual arts.

*- Homeworks will be followed-up by structured discovery technique, principles, concepts and solutions to possible problems and related data will be taught by instructor of the lesson and will be organized by samples. Students will be aided by asking questions in order for them to analyze the data they have and find solutions.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1- Quiz-written exam
2- In order to increase the success and motivation of the student and reduce the homework load; in-class applications, linear and sewing practices carried out during learning-teaching process at workshop-laboratory will ne evaluated by Grade points.
3- Homeworks will be evaluated by evaluation chart.
4- In-class applications during the learning-teaching process, carried out according to lesson plan, will be evaluated by grade points and for evaluation "technical evaluation chart" will be used.

Assessment Criteria

1- Quiz will be carried out as written exam, question-answer technique will be used.
2- Drawing applications and sewing practices that will be carried out in workshop-laboratory will be evaluated with "technical evaluation chart" and "skill of being able to apply the technique" will be measured. These applications will take place in company with the instructor of the lesson
3- On the home works given
Originality, source-data searching, presentation-expression method will be evaluated with an evaluation chart that contain technical and esthetical criteria.
4-Evaluation of workshop - in-class learning-teaching applications

Course Policies and Rules

1. Attendance to 80% of the lesson is compulsory. And applications are obliged to be carried out during the lesson.
2. All kinds of commitments of plagiarism will be penalized.
3. Being not attended the lesson will not be accepted as a valid excuse for late delivery of homework.
4 All practices will be carried out by the student himself/herself.
5 Materials regarding all practices will be provided by the student.
