Course Objective

To give students the proficiency to apply basic information regarding music theory.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognize main concepts of basic music theory.
2   Identify and write notes on treble and bass clef.
3   Distinguish note values.
4   Explain basic concepts of simple and compound meters as well as the differences between them.
5   Apply and explain in writing the rudimentary tempo, articulation, expression terms and repeat signs.

1 Use of bass clef.
2 Note writing exercises on bass clef.
3 Writing notes on ledger lines using bass clef.
4 Dotted notes.
5 Sixteenth note.
6 Music terms: Tempo, expression, articulation.
7 Use of repeat signs.
8 Compound meters.
9 Note writing exercises using compound meters.
10 Use of treble and bass clef all together.
11 Paper preparation on all topics.
12 Check of papers.
13 Review of all topics.
14 Midterm Exam
