Course Objective

Providing the students, who will be professional opera singers, get the basic knowledge on music theory.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student knows the basic concepts of musical notation.
2   The student knows the concepts of rhythm, tempo, measure and beat.
3   The student can explain the all intervals in an octave.
4   The student can apply all the repeat signs.
5   The student can recognize the terms of speed and dinamics in any music piece.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Creation and specialties of the Sound concept.
2 Explanation of the "Music" concept.
3 Introduction to the musical writing(notation of music). Staff, clefs, note names (syllables and letters systems), note duration, rests.
4 Repetition of the topics that learned in 3rd week. Alterations.
5 "Dots" in music notation. Explaining the adding dots and "Staccato"; analysing the differences between them.
6 "Ties" in music notation. Explaining the adding tie and sentence tie(Legato); analysing the differences between them.
7 Repetition of the topic of note durations. The concepts of Rythm, tempo, measure and beating.
8 Repetition of the topics that learned in 7th week.
9 Concept of "Pitch".
10 "Intervals" in music. Analysing the intervals in an octave.
11 "Intervals". Analysing the kinds, usages and soundings of intervals.
12 "Intervals". Analysing the diatonic, chromatic and enharmonic pitchs.
13 Repetition signs. Speed terms and dynamics.
14 Midterm Exam
