Course Objective

To overview basic concepts and theories related to psychology, subfields in psychology, determinant and effective issues in human behaviors in terms of holistic perspective and increase awareness of students about psychology

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to recognize historical roots of psychology in Turkey and in the world
2   Being able to describe subfields of psychology
3   Being able to list research methods in psychology
4   Being able to realize biological roots of behaviors
5   Being able to describe main principles and theories about learning and cognitive development
6   Being able to explain personality and developmental theories
7   Being able to explain main factors affecting mental health
8   Being able to realize social and cultural factors affecting behaviors

7 Learning, principles and conditions
8 Midterm exam
9 Memory, types of memory, influential factors
10 Language acquisition, communication, thinking and problem solving skills
11 Drives and motivation
12 Personality, theories, defense mechanisms
13 Mental Disorders and Behavior Problems ,Psychotherapies
14 Social factors influencing behaviors, group effect, roles and expectations, prosocial behaviors, attitudes and prejudices
15 Final exam
