Course Objective

This course introduces automatic control of machines, processes and systems with the use of modern industrial control system parts such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), SCADA/HMI, sensors, actuators, robots, communication protocols and related software.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to identify a basic industrial control system.
2   Be able to implement a basic industrial control system.
3   Be able to develop PLC programs for small to medium sized industrial control systems with varying degrees of complexity.
4   Be able to use components of industrial automation such as PLC s, servo drives, controllers, motors, actuators, encoders and sensors.
5   Be able to identify industrial automation communication protocols and standards.
