Course Objective

Morphological properties in protozoon, clinic of protozoon disease, differential diagnosis, treatment and prevention methods, major protozoon disease in Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Discuss general properties of protozoa and classify them
2   Discuss pathogen, nonpatogen and free-living amebas, analyse cases and recommend clinical approaches
3   Discuss intestinal and urogenital protozoa other than amebas, analyse cases and recommend clinical approaches
4   Discuss protozoa living in blood and tissue, analyse cases and recommend clinical approaches
5   Identify protozoa living in respiratory system, analyse cases and recommend clinical approaches
6   Discuss opportunistic protozoa, analyse cases and recommend clinical approaches
7   Design a research project about protozoa

7 Trichomonas species, D.fragilis and importance of human health
8 Leishmania species and importance of human health
9 Trypanosoma species and importance of human health
10 Toxoplasma gondii and importance of human health
11 Babesia species and importance of human health
12 Plasmodium species and importance of human health
13 Oppurtunistic protozoon in immundefficiency 1 (C. parvum, B. hominis, Cyclospora cayetanensis) and importance of human health
14 Oppurtunistic protozoon in immundefficiency 2 (Microsporidium, Sarcocystis and Isospora species) and importance of human health
15 Oppurtunistic protozoon in immundefficiency 3 (Pneumocystis jiroveciii) and importance of human health
