Course Objective

This course aims the student to learn the basic concepts and topics of surgical nursing and the new developments in care management in accordance with evidence base resources, standards and up-to-date guides

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student defines the role and importance of the surgical nurse.
2   The student discusses the methods and importance of surgical asepsis, sterilization and disinfection methods
3   The student explains the pre/during/ post care needs of individual/family/society in diseases requiring surgical interventions in accordance with up-to-date and evidence based practices.
4   The student discusses care management and hemodynamic monitoring in cardiovascular system surgical diseases.
5   The student explains care management in genitourinary system surgical diseases
6   The student discusses care management in gastrointestinal system surgical diseases.
7   The student explains enteral and parenteral nutrition and evidence based nursing approaches.
8   The student explains the legal and ethical issues in satisfying the pre/during/post operation care management of individual/family/society.
