Course Objective

Abundance of the variables and criteria on musical preference is the basic reason of thousands of researches conducted in different disciplines. It is clear that efforts for defining the liking for music can never display explicit things. Abundance of criteria is a sufficient evidence; beauty of voice, beauty of tune, intonation, lyrics of song, the things that the music inspires in the person s memory, the things that it reminds, recording, instruments, mastery of performance, identity and status in social life of the performer, the environment in which music is listened, education, family, social environment or cultural identity. Conclusions obtained by researchers of emotion or cultural identity oriented studies conducted in such fields as musicology, psychology, psychiatry, and neurology are still disputable, which is an indicator of the strength of these factors, as well as their variability. The objective of this course is for students to be able to recognize the relation between music and brain with the technics such as fMRI and EEG.
