Course Objective

Animal experimental methods and the care of experimental animals are essential parts of the course, including theoretical aspects as well as practical training. Experimental pharmacological methods are introduced, including operation techniques and in vitro experiments with excised tissues or organs. Within this course, a number of subjects are treated in some length. These subjects include organ bath studies, the Langendorff technique of isolated heart perfusion, pharmacokinetic studies, in vivo rat models of the measurement of blood pressure and ECG monitoring and etc.

1 General principles for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes and animal housing and management
2 The routes of administration of drugs in experimental animals and dose calculation of drugs
3 General principles and techniques of anesthesia and sedation in laboratory animals.
4 The principles of preoperative management
5 Tissue Organ Bath Principles and techniques
6 Dose response studies and concentration-response relationships in isolated tissue preparations.
7 The principles of administration agonist or antagonist to organ bath, Assessment of agonist /antagonists effects in organ bath, Dose-response assessment, the concept of PD2 and PA2 and the calculation of EC50 and IC50
8 The principles of isolated heart preparation and experimental set-up, Asssesment of cardiac functions in isolated heart tissue by Langerdorf methods
9 Methods and techniques of carotid artery and jugular vein cannulation and endotracheal intubation
10 In vivo rat models of the measurement of blood pressure and ECG monitoring
11 Techiques of isolated aorta preparation
12 Techiques of isolated corpus cavernosum preparation
13 Techiques of isolated detrusor muscle preparation
14 The principles of cell culture and using in pharmacology and toxicology
