Course Objective

The objective is to prepare the students to take part in big productions in grades 3rd and 4th, to the stage. First choosing the text to be staged, method to interpret, regie assistancy, and method to keep regie notes, design and optical interpretation example and applications to be done.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowledge in basic rules of staging,
2   Learning the identity of a director, director s responsibilities to the writer and audience,
3   Knowing the way to choose a text to be staged and the way it is interpreted,
4   The method to interpret and notes of play stage structure applications skills in details,
5   Having been learning stage, sofita (upper stage), frieze, lighting positions, importance of emphasis on stage, cooperation, masking, marking, stealing a role etc. concepts for application,
6   Being educated about optical design application are all expected.

Course Contents

1 Who is the director To the writer, the audience and the actor, what are the responsibilities
2 How to select and intepret a text to be staged
3 An example interpretation of a play, according to the Interpretin Methodology is done.
4 How to choose scene responsible An example.
5 What are the requirements of streichen (cutting out parts) An example from the play.
6 What is in the Regie Notes What is the significance of Regie Note-book to the cultural history
7 Regie Notes of the play choosen are written, as an applied work.
8 Stage, sofita(upper stage),freize, lighting positions, importance of emphasis on stage, cooperation, masking, marking, stealing a role etc., concepts for application are explained.
9 Explanations about emotional values of the stage, levels on stage and usage of the areas on stage.
10 Explanations of design elements and concept of emphasis with the methods are held.
11 The concepts of balance (aesthetic, physical, symmetric, asymmetric equilibrium) are described and examples are given.
12 Queuing, and consolidation concepts application.
13 A complete optical interpretation s explanation in 7 main articles/matters.
14 Optical interpretation applications and some sampling are done.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

First 4 or 5 texts are held. One of them is discussed and as if the one will be steged, theorical and applied dramaturgic interpretation is worked out. On the stage, the terms used between players and the director are applied and info given about those. Play regie notes are partially done and information about regie note contents are given. Afterwards scene responsibles are detected, design and optical interpretation applications start. The aim of the course is to create a stage and regie/directing concept.

Attendance in midterm and final exams are obliged; as well as class participation and active listening in class.

Course Policies and Rules

The course policy requires the students of all branches to work together for the applied work; rules of the big game is thaught. In short, the idea of the stage, concepts and discipline are passed on. According to the rules, internal discipline, transferred to the rules of the play. Rules are attendance and exam participation.
