Course Objective

To study origins of pattern and mothives used in embroidering textile surfaces and resemblences and differences in interactions between cultures.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Comprehensive scanning of sources involving textile pattern terminology
2   Coming up with information on textile patterns and analysing patterns/motives according to their properties
3   Interpreting types and derivatives of pattern and motives
4   Analysing composition and schemes of patterns
5   Changing obtained results into a scientific report and presenting them in written, oral and visual ways.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecture by Staff Member and Participation of Students in Lecture: Staff member is to transfer prepared material to students through visual presentation, with a discussion session being created following every lecture.
Research Topics and Related Presentations: Students who have received research topics determined on lectures are to prepare their internalised knowledge in visual and written forms on the level of expertise and present their research topics in predetermined schedule.

Assessment Criteria

Ability of students to scan through literature, collect, compile and analyse data and present related outcomes is assessed and graded by preparation and presentation of their assignments, midterm and final exams.
