Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to learn types and formation of free radicals and also damages on biomolecules resulted from free radicals. In parallel, it involves the antioxidant defense system. The role of oxidative stress in the formation of various disease will be discussed. In the practise session of this course, techniques using in the detection of oxidant and antioxidant parameters will be performed in the laboratory.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the term free radical and explain the types and sources of free radical .
2   Describe the oxidative stress and its damages on biomolecules
3   Learn the oxidative stress induced by metals.
4   Classify the antioxidants and explain the mechanism of antioxidants.
5   Know the techniques using for detection of oxidant and antioxidant parameters.
6   Understant the mechanism of various disease related to oxidative stres.
