Course Objective

The aim of this course is to scan published main resources related to the Turkish communities in AD period and especially after Islam; to prepare a theoretical and visual source related to their religion, lifestyle and art perception, and as of Islam to examine worldly cultural data produced in organized states; to have the students gain chronologic and comparative knowledge concerning art perception of those communities.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   After the education given with this course, the students are supposed to attain the resources published about Turkish communities who lived A.D., especially on their history, art history and different disciplines,
2   be informed of the general history knowledge related to Turkish communities who lived in Anatolia after Islam and know worldly cultural data remained till today,
3   be informed of the new lifestyle, government and art production developing by acceptance of Islam,
4   realize the effect of transition to permanent settlement and a new religious system on art products and state their opinions abut these,
5   make a common scientific study by studying on a different discipline related to the lesson subject.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course the students will be canalised to main and supplementary sources in order to know the historical development of Turkish communities that lived in A.D. Furthermore, they are asked to read some related articles from scientific magazines, especially published in English, and these articles will be supported with new ideas in class discussions. The students will also be encouraged to make a presentation in a scientific meeting and will be asked to make a presentation at the same level in class.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The main evaluation criteria is made up of the students resource scanning after being guided to main sources and their presentation in the lesson. They are also evaluated by the answers they will be asked and their participation in the discussions after the lesson. Moreover, the creativity in their original designs and the originality will be taken into account.

Assessment Criteria

The mid-term, final and presentation will be evaluated out of 100, and the average will be out of 100. 80% attendance is compulsory.

After the students are instructed with the theoretical knowledge, both orally and written, applications will be performed one to one. They are informed about the following lessons and expected to do pre-study.
