Course Objective

The aim of this course is to research the mentality and viewpoints that shape space perception of miniature and composition principles, and to have the students make original resolutions and original designs on this subject.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   After the education given with this course, the students are supposed to know the miniature styles presenting differences throughout history and master the related literature and terminology in, at least, one foreign language,
2   examine and interpret the miniatures of a writing presenting differences in terms of subject and space with regards to composition principles,
3   discuss and put forward new ideas the relationship between space perception and composition order by considering the tendencies of an art environment where the writing is illustrated and the philosophical infrastructure of the period,
4   prepare an article which is related to their field, suitable for academic writing rules and ethics and which can be changed into a publication, or make a presentation in a scientific meeting,
5   make an original design using theoretical knowledge they have gained in their education and visual resource they have made up.

1 Introduction of original miniature styles that have come to the forth throughout history ( accompanied with slides )
2 Main miniature writings presenting differences in terms of subject and space description

4 Viewpoints that are thought to dominate styles and images produced in the East / philosophical and literary writing belonging to periods
5 Examining the space perception and composition orders in miniature
6 Examining the space perception and composition orders in miniature ( mentality and philosophical infrastructure )

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the students will be canalized to main and supplementary resources in order to have them consider and interpret the miniature as a painting style. Furthermore, they are asked to read some related articles from scientific magazines, especially published in English, and these articles will be supported with new ideas in class discussions. The students will also be encouraged to make a presentation in a scientific meeting and will be asked to make a presentation at the same level in class.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The main evaluation criteria is made up of the students resource scanning after being guided to main sources and their presentation in the lesson. They are also evaluated by the answers they will be asked and their participation in the discussions after the lesson. Moreover, the creativity in their original designs and the originality will be taken into account.

Assessment Criteria


The mid-term, final and presentation will be evaluated out of 100, and the average will be out of 100. 80% attendance is compulsory.

After the students are instructed with the theoretical knowledge, both orally and written, applications will be performed one to one. They are informed about the following lessons and expected to do pre-study.
