Course Objective

It is necessary for the students of Traditional Turkish Art Department, Department of Carpet-Rug Old Fabric Designs to learn the history of textile art and methods and techniques of historical textile ornamentation. Historical resources will be used as a reference in the designs and applications the students will make. Historical textile printing techniques will be used in applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   explain textile ornamentation concept ,
2   define the methods and techniques, differences and similarities of Asian and Middle-East textiles throughout history,
3   define textile design rules,
4   apply textile printing and dyeing techniques,
5   make new designs and applications by taking historical textile patterns as a reference.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the lecturer s notes and resource researches will be used. Visual presentation will be done, and application works will be realized in the workshop under the supervision of the lecturer.

The students researches and assignments will be evaluated out of 100.

80 % attendance is compulsory. Workshop studies are nominal. Especially, designs and applications have to be completed in the lesson s time.
