Course Objective

The course aims at providing the student with the essentials of customs and foreign exchange operations with
particular respect to the current customs, foreign trade and tax regulations and practice in Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to recognize different types of taxes and funds collected at the customs
2   Be able to demonstrate understanding of the rules and regulations on fines, exemptions, storage conditions at custom as well as anti-dumping applications
3   Become familiar with the general rules and regulations of the EU-Turkey customs union
4   Be able to recognise foreign exchange-related aspects of customs operations
5   Be able to recognise different types of documents and certificates, free circulation applications and rules of origion

Assessment Criteria

The learner will demonstrate his/her knowledge on different types of taxes and funds collected at the
customs
The learner will demonstrate the rules and regulations on fines, exemptions, storage conditions at
customs and anti-damping applications
The learner will explain the general rules and regulations of the EU-Turkey customs union;
The learner will demonstrate understanding of foreign exchange-related aspects of customs operations;
The learner will identify different types of documents and certificates, free circulation applications and
rules of origin.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Although the course is mainly based on lectures, around 20 % of each session is intended for class discussion,
based on the lecture itself and assigned readings. Therefore, students are expected to be prepared for class
participation at each session.
2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action
