Course Objective

The purpose of the course is to introduce the learner to cultural, socio-economic and political characteristics of the Middle East, with regard to their implications for the business environment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to explain the cultural, socio-economic and political dynamics of the countries in the Middle East, in order to assess the business opportunities for this region.
2   Be able to analyse and interpret the role of conflicts on the business patterns this region, in order to assess the threats and opportunities for entrepreneurship.
3   Be able to recognize the common business practices and traditions in the Middle East, to assess their implications for doing business with in this region.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Attending at least 70 % of lectures is mandatory.
2. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
3. Although the course is mainly based on lectures, around 20 % of each session is intended for class discussion, based on the lecture itself and assigned readings. Therefore, students are expected to be prepared for class participation at each session.
