Course Objective

The course provides a strategic and technical understanding of integrating environmental and social criteria in the investment process. This course is suitable for students seeking careers in investment management who want to achieve a better understanding of the environmental and social portfolio, as well as the risks and opportunities that it presents. It can be equally of interest to students specifically interested in, or curious about, responsible and thematic investments around key environmental and social issues.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Integrate environmental and social risks and opportunities into different investment products
2   Balance the societal and environmental issues with the profit pressures affecting the investors.
3   Apply knowledge of responsible investments to strategic analysis for investors with regards to environmental and social risks and their integration into investment products.
4   Assess the types and strategic implications of different RI techniques for the investors and also the corporations in their investment portfolio and also the environment and society.
5   Be able to articulate the concepts and principles that support socially responsible investing.
6   Know how to analyze, as well as compare and contrast basic investment and social theories that support socially responsible investing.
7   Understand the basic theories of social responsibility for corporations, financial institutions, governments, and individual investors.
