Course Objective

In this course; evolution of leather from the phase of tanning to finishings and its uses in leather products with materials and accessories is taught. By the end of this course, the student has to be capable of presenting the knowledge learned in this course using scientific methods as well.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   By the end of this course, students are expected to: Be capable of learning the phases of leather from tanning to finishings.
2   Be capable of learning the effects of different tanning processes on leather product design
3   Be capable of learning the uses of the leather types in all kinds of leather products.
4   Be capable of choosing alternative materials to be used in footwear and leather products.
5   Be capable of making visual and literary presentations in the light of information obtained

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Course and its processes:
Instructor gives information on types of leather, using samples and visual presentation. Students complete the required preparatory work for the following lesson. Instructor informs the students on using leather types with alternative materials and achieves the participation of students in the lesson by sustaining their comments on the subject.
2. Research Topics and Presentations:
Instructor explains the research methods within the Leather and Leather Products Material Knowledge course and the preparations made for the research are checked. Students make visual and literary presentations of their researches on designated date. Research files are handed in.

Course Policies and Rules

1.There is an 80 % obligation in attendance to lesson.
2. All plagiarism attempts and actions would end up in disciplinary punishment
3. If one doesn t hand over the required sketch- design studies on time, the evaluation would be carried out by taking this into consideration. But the student is supposed to hand over required things.
4. For late project deliveries, decreasing a letter grade for each day will be applied.
