Course Objective

In this course will examine by examples chronological development of Byzantine architecture and the story of coverted into museum of monumental Byzantine structures and will focus on the importance of museum identity in the preservation of this monument and in the transferred to future generations.

1 A brief history of the Byzantine state, Definition of Byzantine art, The emergence of Byzantine art in the world and in Turkey, Periods of Byzantine Art.
2 Terminology of Byzantine Art. (general art terms)
3 Constantine's city organization and general information about the panorama of Istanbul in Byzantine period.
4 Chronological development of Byzantine architecture (Early Byzantine Period)
5 Chronological development of Byzantine architecture (Middle Byzantine Period)
6 Chronological development of Byzantine architecture (Late Byzantine Period)
7 Müzeye dönüştürülen Bizans yapıları
8 Midterm Exam
9 Byzantine structures which converted into museum
10 The opinions about misapplications of historical buildings which converted into a museum.
11 New ideas about what kind of applications should be done for those buildings wanted to convert into a museum.
12 Exhibition in the historical buildings.
