General Description

History

n 12 November 2015 General Board of Higher Education decided liquidation of the vocational school and replaced it with the School of Applied Sciences. Department of International Trade is one of the programme among three in the high school. The Department of International Business and Trade was founded in 2015 within DEU The School Of Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Applied Sciences offers theory and practice based interdisciplinary courses which integrate management, economics, accounting and finance, marketing, international trade, international business management courses in order to develop strategies and generate solutions for complex international business problems by considering the effects of international enviromental factors in dynamic structure of international business arena. I

Students are selected by High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination (YGS 6) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students Arriving by Lateral Transfer:
For students who would like to come to Dokuz Eylül University by lateral transfer from the higher education institutions abroad and from Turkey, the evaluation conditions determined by the University Senate and the Regulations about the
Credit Transfer and Double Major, Minor Transfer among the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs of the Higher Education Institutions are applied. The number of students to be accepted in the framework of lateral transfer is announced by Council of Higher EducationTurkey. The evaluation is made by the commissions set up at relevant faculties and schools, then the decisions are made and announced by the relevant commissions.

Students arriving by the Vertical Transfer:
Vertical transfer of the students graduated from vocational schools and willing to continue to the bachelors degree programmes in the same field (as continuation of the previous education), the Regulation about the Continuation of Graduates from Vocational Schools and from Associate Degree Programmes of Open Education to Bachelors Degree Programmes is applied. The quotas reserved by the University is stated to the Direction of OSYM and they are published and announced in the Guide of Vertical Transfer prepared by OSYM. Placement procedures are realized in a centralized way by the OSYM according to the results of the Vertical Transfer Examination.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 4 years of study acquiring 240 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all theoretical courses and applied courses in the curriculum and 90 working days of practical training. According to the Article 33 of Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on education and examination in Associate s and Bachelor s Degrees, the student should have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale and also have got no failing grades in order to complete the education successfully and attain a diploma.

Profile of the Programme

Department of International Trade aims to provide students with necessary skills and knowledge to analyze global trade relations and markets. Deparment's courses mainly teach norms and rules of international trade to guide students in mapping risks and opportunities. The liberalization of trade in developing countries such as Turkey requires competent and professional staff bearing the knowledge of international trade regime. Then, our department is found to provide the needed staff for the international trade related sectors. International Trade program mainly relies on courses combining the knowledge of different disciplines such as economics, business administration, accounting and finance. It is designed to provide students with necessary theoretical as well as the practical background to analyze international trade regime.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Make use of other disciplines that international business and trade is based upon (economics, law, sociology, business administration) and to have the basic knowledge of these disciplines.
2   Share the ideas, recommendations and solutions on the issues of international business and trade with the relevant stakeholders by supporting these ideas and proposals through quantitative and qualitative data in written and verbal manner, both in Turkish and in English.
3   Read, write and communicate in English efficiently.
4   Use computer skills at an advanced level.
5   To take responsibility as a team leader and member to solve multidimensional problems.
6   Build up on acquired knowledge, skills and qualifications for professional and social uses.
7   To possess ethical and social values in issues, process, research of international business and trade.
8   Examine, interpret data and assess concepts and ideas with scientific methods in the field of international business and trade.
9   Comprehend the requirements of international competition, as well as differing business patterns and traditions of various countries.
10   Above and beyond the essentials of international business management, economics and trade, mainly in field of import-export operations, international economic institutions and functioning of international money and capital markets, have sufficient and up-to-date knowledge and skills required to focus on a chosen field.
11   Being fully aware of the requirements of the international (consumer and industrial) markets; develop strategies and take swift decisions in finance, management, production and marketing in broad spectrum in the international business environment including events of crises.
12   To possess leadership and management abilities, needed for an international manager and entrepreneur.
13   To deliberate and act multi-dimensionally and analytically, focusing on technology, creativity and innovation.
14   Have comprehension, oral and written skills in a second foreign language other than English.
15   In a resolved and self-disciplined way, be able to make efficient use of negotiation techniques.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of International Trade Department have the opportunity to work in management positions in all types of firms operating at international level, foreign trade, banking and finance-related government agencies, municipal, regional and local trade agencies, chambers of commerce, free zones, economic development agencies etc.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are 56 compulsory courses, 8 elective courses in the Department of International Trade. The percentage of the elective courses to all courses is 216/24 ECTS. Student must select 2 elective courses per semester in the fifth, sixth, eight, nineth semesters. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses. Practical training is subject to the Practical Training Directive of the School of Applied Sciences. This time, our school decided to be 90 working days, depending on the regulations. Internship, students work life programs, recognition and training offers the opportunity to see applications of their theoretical knowledge. High School students internship periods are typically periods of the sectors where they met. Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation methods for every course are defined in the course syllabus form prepared by the relevant teaching staff and provided in the Information Package. The related articles of the Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on Education and Examination in Associate s and Bachelor s Degrees and Implementation Fundamentals of Education and Examination in Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon School Of Applied Sciences are implemented for examinations and course pass marks.

Graduation Requirements

The student must complete 4 years of study acquiring 240 (ECTS) credits. Also, students must meet GPA 1.80 to take a lesson from next year.
