Course Objective

Students will be able to comprehend the fundamentals of the Statistical Physics

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   After completing this course, students will be able to comprehend the basic concepts and probability concepts in the Statistical Physics course
2   After completing this course, students will be able to explain equilibrium situation and distributions of macroscobic parameters of macroscobic systems
3   After completing this course, students will be able to explain the thermal interactions between macroscobic systems using statistical concepts
4   After completing this course, students will be able to use probability equations regarding continuous and discontinuous variables in problem solving
5   After completing this course, students will be able to link between their knowledge about course and daily life and technology

1 Features of the Macroscobic Systems: Purpose of the Statistical Physics, Macroscobic system, Distributions around the equilibrium situation
2 Irreversibility and Approach to Equilibrium Situation, The other examples
3 Features of the equilibrium situation, Observation of the distribution, Brown s motion, Distribution of voltage in a resistance
4 Heat and temperature, Typical quantities, Pressure of an ideal gas
5 Basic Probability Concepts: Statistical Population, Simple equations between probabilities
6 Binomial distribution, Average values, Standart deviation and Variance
7 Average value of a spin system, Continuous probability distributions and problem solving
8 Midterm exam
9 Statistical description of particle systems: Description of the state of a system (quantum states), A single spin system, A N-spin ideal system
10 A particle in one dimensional box, A particle in three dimensional box, Ideal gas of N particles in a three dimensional box
11 Statistical population, Accessible states of a system and examples
12 Statistical postulations, Probability calculations and examples
