The objective of this course is to enable students to write and analyze academic texts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to identify the characteristics of English academic texts and use these characteristics in textual analysis
2   write different types of essays (cause-effect, comparison-contrast, etc.)
3   read the essays written by other students from a critical perspective and to express his/her opinion
4   use academic sources while writing and prepare bibliography
5   analyze texts in his/her academic studies by using this knowledge

1. Lectures: Lectures are designed in a way that students will get an understanding about academic writing rules. After necessary information is given in the lectures, it is assured through exercises that students can use their knowledge in practice
2. Discussion: It is an indispensable part of the course in terms of its creating an environment where students share their answers and their views about these answers; besides, they determine their strong and weak points in these discussions
3. Quiz: It is important in terms of determining the level of students comprehension and the subjects where they have difficulties
4. Midterm Examination: It is used in evaluating students performance in the first half of the term
5. Final Examination: It is used in evaluating students performance throughout the term
