Course Objective

This course aims at providing students with information on Government and Binding Theory and the Minimalist Program, two of generative syntax theories, and the concepts and analysis methods of these theories via practices on linguistic data from various languages.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   explain advanced concepts in Government and Binding theory
2   apply the representation methods used in G&B theory on linguistic data
3   define the perspective of Minimalist Program
4   apply the representation methods used in Minimalist Program on linguistic data
5   apply the analyses of G&B and MP on examples from English and other languages.
