Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain students the ability to express themselves in daily and occupational contexts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To advance his/her pronunciation.
2   To identify culture, subjects and taboos of speaking.
3   To express himself/herself verbally depending on the contexts s/he is in.
4   To identify different styles in different socio-cultural environments.
5   To maintain occupational talks in occuppational environments.

2 English-speaking societies and crosslinguistic variation
3 Taboos and subjects in Anglosaxon cultures
4 The cultural use of units such as respect, body language in verbal communication
5 Conventions of verbal communication: discussion, turntaking etc.
6 Daily Life: Small talk
7 Midterm
8 Daily Life: Conversations in public authorities
9 Daily Life: Conversations within the scope of organising a journey, a party and a meeting
10 Daily Life: Conversations as consumers
11 Daily Life: speeches occuring between guest and host, making a speech on a special day
12 Giving a speech on an occupational environment and activity
13 Giving a speech on an occupational environment and activity
