Course Objective

This course aims to provide training for operational level deck engineering officers with responsibilities in cargo handling in particular to loading, care in transit of cargo, unloading, tank cleaning, gas freeing and inerting. This training includes theoretical as well as practical application of such knowledge through the use of liquid cargo handling simulator..

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Familiarization with the equipment, instrumentation and controls used for cargo handling on a chemical tanker
2   Greater awareness of the need for proper pre-planning, to use of checklists and time scales involved in the various cargo handling operations
3   An enhanced awareness to apply proper and safe procedures at all times when carrying out the various operations on board a chemical tanker
4   An acquisition of experience in identifying operational problems and solving them
5   An improvement in the ability to make decisions which promote safety and protect the environment
