Course Objective

To make the engineering students conscious of natural disasters

1   Knows about origin of the natural events like earth slidings, volcanic eplosions, floodings.
2   Understands relation between natural events and natural disasters.
3   Remembers always the risk of natural disaster in the engineering applications.
4   Makes team working about natural disasters and takes resposibility

1 What is earthquake. Seismic waves and tsunami. Earthquake belts of Turkey and World. Prevents for earthquake. Social end economic dimensions of the earthquakes. Resposibilities of engineers for earthquakes.
2 What is flooding. Causes of the floodings.Prevents for floodings. Floodings in Turkey. Social and economic dimensions of the floodings. Resposibilities of engineers for floodings.
3 Active volcanoes and volcanic explosions. Prevents for volcanic explosions. Social and economic dimensions of the volcanic explosions. Resposibilities of engineers for volcanic explosions.
4 What are mass movements. Origin of the mass movements. Prevents for mass movements. Social and economic dimensions of the mass movements. Resposibilities of engineers for mass movements.
5 Soil erosion and aridity. Formation of soil. Soil horizons. Factors increasing the soil erosion. Social and economic dimensions of soil erosion and aridity.
