Course Objective

Objectives of this course are to give basic principles of anaerobic treatment of domestic and municipal wastewater, to give basic design principles of anaerobic treatment processes and to give some examples of full scale anaerobic processes from industrial applications

2   Determining and classification of anaerobic suspended growth and attached growth processes
3   Discussion of difference between anaerobic suspended growth and attached growth processes

1 Introduction, applications of anaerobic systems, advantages and disadvantages of anaerobic degredation, the mechanism of anaerobic degredation
2 Conversion mechanism of carbonhydrates, proteins and fats
3 Basic design principles of septic tanks and Imhoff tanks, Standart rate single stage anaerobic digestion
4 Designing of high rate, two stage anaerobic digestion
5 Design examples of single stage and high rate anaerobic digesters, gas production and gas storage systems
6 Design principles of anaerobic contact processes
7 Design principles of upflow anaerobic filters
8 1. Midterm Exam
9 Design principles of downflow stationary fixed film reactors
10 Design principles of upflow anaerobic sludge bed processes (UASB-Processes)
11 Fludized Bed Reactors for Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment
