Course Objective

The objective of the course is to have the students comprehend the discourse of media which has all the makings of different ideologies and present them explicitly and/or implicitly, its key concepts, types and features and gain a critical perspective on it.

1   Explain specific features of media discourse
2   Explain types of media discourse and their specific features
3   Explain the relationship between media discourse and ideology
4   Explain how the relationship between media discourse and ideology is reflected/constructed in different types of media discourse
5   Analyse a media text and criticize it.
6   Investigate the features of media discourse and repare a research article on it

Assessment Criteria

Learning outcomes 1-6 will be evaluated via the questions asked in the mid-term and final exams,the assignments/projects, presentations and active participation in classes.

1. 70% class attendance is obligatory.
2. Absence from classes will not be considered as an excuse for late submission of the homework assignments/projects and not participating in class discussions.
3. Cheating and plagiarism attempts in assignments and exams will be evaluated with a 0 (zero) grade.
