Course Objective

The objective of this course is to study and analyse various discourse types with a critical approach and analyse written and oral texts with an emphasis on discourse (language use), society, culture and ideology which are the basic concepts of the theory and thus have the students gain a critical perspective on the explicit and implicit ideology and its effect on the society analysing different texts.

1   Explain the theory of Critical discourse analysis and its research areas.
2   Define the basic terms and concepts used in Critical discourse analysis.
3   Explain the basic terms and concepts used in Critical discourse analysis with examples.
4   Analyse written and oral texts within the framework of Critical discourse analysis
5   Discuss and comment on the findings of the analysis within the framework of Critical discourse analysis
6   Write a research article within the framework of Critical discourse analysis.

1. Learning outcomes 1-6 will be evaluated via the questions asked in the mid-term and final exams,the assignments/projects, presentations and active participation in classes.

2. Absence from classes will not be considered as an excuse for late submission of the homework assignments/projects and not participating in class discussions.
