Course Objective

The definitions of lexis, definitions in dictionary/vocabulary writing, definition types and understanding the lexical meaning relations.

3   Realise the semantic facts in lexis
4   Hold a semantic analysis through the lexis

1 What is lexis, what are lexemes What is glossary Explanation of the concepts lexeme, lexis etc.
2 Lexeme types and generation/formation of the words. Different types of words in the language
3 Glossary and meaning. Sign, meaning and reference
4 Scope and comprehension: concepts in the word definition.
5 Words in the semantic base: connotation, denotation, metaphor, metonymy and synecdoche
6 Semantic analysis of the words seme, sememe
7 Seme and component analysis
8 Midterm
9 Definition and definition types. Prototype and stereotype. Different approaches to definition.
10 Synonymy, homonymy, homography, antonymie

12 Semantic aspects of Turkish
13 Synonymy and Turkish
